We are Andrew and Clare Robertson, proprietors of Whinfield Farm Nurseries and Tea Room. Being lifelong gardeners we first opened our plant nursery in 1989 having moved to the property in 1987.
Ideally located on the A67 halfway between Winston and Gainford and close to the towns of Darlington, Barnard Castle and Bishop Auckland we occupy an idyllic rural location between the River Tees and the Alwent Beck.
Initially we opened with one small greenhouse and as the business grew we expanded.
Three years ago we opened our tea room and this year we are opening our mini museum of agricultural tools and implements.
We raise our plants using traditional methods. All seedlings are pricked out and potted on by hand. We are lifelong growers, lifelong gardeners, having an understanding of plants.
Our customers return to us year after year. Many customers bring their own planters, pots, hanging baskets and troughs to be filled anew each season with our healthy, vibrant bedding plants.
In addition to the ever popular annuals we specialise in alpines, shrubs and herbaceous plants.
Advice and a chat is freely given.
We look forward to welcoming you to Whinfield Farm Nurseries!
